Modeling diffusion coefficients in binary mixtures of polar and non-polar compounds
The theory of transport coefficients in liquids, developed previously, is tested on a description of the diffusion coefficients in binary polar/nonpolar mixtures, by applying advanced thermodynamic models. Comparison to a large set of experimental data shows good performance of the model. Only four temperature-independent parameters are required in order to describe the behavior of diffusion coefficients at different temperatures. The physical meaning of the parameters is analyzed. This makes it possible to reduce further their number to just two parameters for described mixtures with polar components and to only one parameter for mixtures consisting of non-polar components. A possibility of complete prediction of the parameters is discussed. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
