Dual-chemistry cathode system for high-rate pulse applications
A novel electrode design was developed and used to construct cells for high-rate pulsing applications. In this electrode design, a cathode material with high energy density, such as carbon monofluoride (CFx), is sandwiched between two layers of current collectors that in turn are sandwiched between two layers of cathode materials with high power capability, such as silver vanadium oxide (SVO). Lithium cells constructed with such cathodes exhibited power capability similar to SVO cells, but with higher volumetric and gravimetric capacity. The advantages of both SVO and CFx, materials were efficiently utilized. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All fights reserved.
