Extraction of lysozyme using reverse micelles and pressurized carbon dioxide
Lysozyme was forward extracted in a reverse micellar process under conditions of varying ionic strength, pH, AOT level, and temperature both with and without high-pressure CO2 . It was found that high-pressure CO2 reduced the extraction time under all conditions tested and increased the amount of protein transferred. Reasons for this are discussed. In addition, the CO2 stripped lysozyme from the micelles efficiently, avoiding the need for the usual back extraction for purification.
