Effect of Residual Chlorine on Hydrogen Spillover Kinetics over Pt/MoO3

The kinetics of H-spillover over Pt/MoO3 was greatly affected by the amount of residual chlorine, which was affected by the calcination temperature. The rate of hydrogen uptake became faster after calcination, even if the dispersion of Pt crystallites did not change. Characterization techniques (XPS and CO chemisorption) demonstrated that Cl reduced faster after calcination at higher temperature. This process induces smaller amounts of residual chlorine at adlineation sites between the Pt and MoO3 substrates; it results in opening the channel of hydrogen pathway into more MoO3 particles and controls the kinetics of hydrogen uptake.
