Complexity in semiconductor manufacturing, activity of antimicrobial agents, and drilling of hydrocarbon wells: Common themes and case studies
Complexity manifests itself in various ways and in systems from seemingly disparate areas. In this work we present a sample of complex phenomena that may arise in systems from three different areas: semiconductor manufacturing, activity of antimicrobial agents, and drilling of hydrocarbon wells. We explain how interactions among the parts of such systems can create behavior that is more interesting than individual parts would indicate. Finally, we provide potential directions for future development. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
