Octane-increasing composite additive based on ethanol
One way of improving the ecological properties of gasolines is to develop effective, cheap, and environmentally clean high-octane additives. The prohibition of toxic lead-containing antiknocks led to the development of alternative compounds. As experience in using them showed, oxygen-containing additives or oxygenates were the most promising: methyl tert-butyl, ethyl tert-butyl ethers (MTBE, ETBE), methanol, and others [1].
