Selective Oxidation of Hydrogen Sulfide over LaSrCoO4 and LaSrCoO3.6F0.4 Mixed Oxides

The perovskite-like LaSrCoO4 and LaSrCoO3.6F0.4 mixed oxides of K2NiF4 structure were prepared by using the polyglycol gel method and applied successfully to the selective oxidation of H2S in a stream containing both ammonia and water. These samples were investigated by using XRD, IR, TPD, TPR, and XPS methods. The catalytic activity of LaSrCoO4 was much better than that of LaSrCoO3.6F0.4 in the oxidation reaction, but the selectivity to elemental sulfur and ammonium thiosulfate of LaSrCoO3.6F0.4 was much higher than that of LaSrCoO4. This result is explained in terms of their reduction capacities, contents of Co3+, oxygen vacancies, and mobile lattice oxygen, and surface contents of Co and O.
