Control of the electrode-molecule interface for molecular devices
Using the monolayers of benzenethiol, benzeneselenol, and biphenyl ditelluride on a gold substrate, we investigated the stability of the Au-S, Au-Se, and Au-Te bonds and the charge injection barrier in their interfaces. The Au-S and Au-Se bonds were formed in a stable manner, while in the monolayer of biphenyl ditelluride, a tellurium oxide was generated. It was also found that the charge injection barrier was smaller in the Au-Se interface than in the Au-S interface, therefore leading us to indicate that the Au-Se interface was more appropriate for molecular devices than the Au-S or Au-Te interfaces.
