Neutron spin-echo labelling at OffSpec, an ISIS second target station project
In the recently developed SESANS technique neutron spin-echo labelling is used to perform small-angle neutron scattering in real space. By using a neutron beam with milliradian divergence it is possible to detect scattering angles of the order of microradians. At the Second Target Station of the neutron spallation source ISIS, UK one of the first group of instruments will be OffSpec, especially designed to obtain information on in-plane inhomogeneities. Here, neutron spin-echo labelling will be employed to obtain real space information of these correlations on a length scale from 10 nm to 30 mu m. Other new options that will be possible with the spin-echo components on this instrument are discussed. First test results of broad-wavelength-range time-of-flight reflectometry, making use of HF flippers, are presented. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
