Alkynylation of carbonyl compounds with trimethylsilyl-acetylenes in the presence of a catalytic amount of Lewis bases such as acetate or phenoxide anion is described. The alkynylation proceeded under mild conditions and afforded the corresponding propargyl alcohols in good to excellent yields.
