Heats of immersion on activated carbons and their estimation by fuzzy methods
The specific heats of immersion of n-hexane, lower alcohols and water were calorimetrically measured by means of an isothermal LKB 2107 microcalorimeter with the Batch-vessel and a simple charging adiabatic calorimeter constructed in our laboratory, with stirrer and a high-precision temperature measuring module (by Eurotronics GmbH). In order to obtain the heats of immersion in kJ/mol, the limiting adsorption values were determined isopiestically using a desiccator. On the basis of the ratio of heats of immersions given by the non-polar component (n-hexane) and the very polar component (water) we prove the predictability of immersion by means of fuzzy logic. A comparison with experimental results yields satisfactory results especially within the homologeous series of n-alkanes and alcohols.
