Growth temperatures and microstructure selection during Bridgman solidification of hypereutectic Al-La and Al-Ce alloys
Growth temperatures have been measured for primary Al11X3 and Al-Al11X3 eutectic (X = La,Ce) for representative hypereutectic AI-La and Al-Ce alloys undergoing Bridgman growth over the velocity range 3 to 600 mu m/s and an applied temperature gradient of 10 K/mm. The results are shown to be in good agreement with predictions of the Hunt-Lu and Jackson-Hunt models, respectively, as well as bring consistent with limiting velocities for growth of primary Al11X3 in competition with eutectic previously determined for these systems.
