Cracking of CdWO4 (CWO) crystal during growth and/or subsequent cooling is investigated. The breaking strain resulting from non-uniform temperature distribution in a CWO crystal during and after pulling has been computed using our experimental data on growth, thermal expansion and thermal conductivity. For the growth of 35 mm diameter crystals, the value for maximum cooling rate computed is 25 degrees h(-1).
