A study on the growth and the microstructure of double doping Bi2-xPbxSr2-yLayCuOz single crystals
Here we report that high-quality Pb- and La-doped Bi2201 single crystals with dimension up to 8 x 4 x 0.05 mm(3) were grown from the starting composition Bi1.8+xPb0.2Sr1.65La0.35CuOz by self-fluxed growth method. Different amounts of Bi2O3 in excess are included in each crystal growth run to act as flux for the growth and the optimum concentration of the flux amount has been found. Structure characterization of a high-quality 2201 free crystal of 4 x 1.9 x 0.03 mm(3) was conducted by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron diffraction (ED) patterns. The optimum conditions for the growth of the Bi2201 single crystals were systematically investigated. In addition, annealing experiments (under various O-2 partial pressures) have been performed on large and pure-phase single crystals of Bi2201, and the relationship between the microstructural characteristic and the oxygen-doped concentrations of the samples was investigated, based on the analysis of the experimental results.
