Growth and characterization of N-(2-chlorophenyl)-(1-propanamide) - a nonlinear organic crystal
New organic electro-optic and nonlinear optical material, N-(2-chlorophenyl)-(1-propanamide) has been synthesized by the standard method. The synthesized material is purified by repeated crystallization. Single crystals of N-(2-chlorophenyl)-(1-propanamide) were grown by the slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were transparent and were of optimum dimensions (20 x 5 x 5 mm(3)). The grown crystals were characterized by UV-Vis, IR, NMR and powder XRD techniques. The second harmonic generators (SHG) signal was detected by employing fluorescence spectroscope.
