Synthesis of high-purity Sr2GdRuO6 in a water vapor atmosphere

The synthesis of Sr2GdRuO6, a precursor of the superconductor RuSr2GdCu2O8, by common solid-state reaction is always accompanied by the formation of small amounts of ferromagnetic SrRuO3 impurities. However, high-purity Sr2GdRuO6 is produced by carrying out the solid-state reaction in flowing O-2 and water vapor. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
