Growth, thermal and optical properties of Sr3NbGa3Si2O14 single crystals
We have successfully grown new piezoelectric single crystals of Sr3NbGa3Si2O14 (SNGS) with ordered langasite structure using the Czochralski (CZ) method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) experiments showed that the SNGS crystals were single phase and had the same structure as the La3Ga5SiO14 (LGS) crystal. The specific heat of the crystal was measured to be 0.53 J/gK at room temperature. The thermal expansion coefficients perpendicular to the Z-direction were measured to be 2.7 x 10(-6)/K between 298.15 and 443.15 K and along the Z-axis to be 7.0 x 10(-6)/K between 298.15 and 472.15 K, respectively. The transmittance spectra between 190 and 3200 nm wavelength were measured; the highest transmittance of SNGS crystal was determined to be 84.5%. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
