Growth and characterization of selenium sulfide (SeS) and selenium tin sulfide (SeSnS2) microcrystals
Growth of SeS and SeSnS2 micro crystals by slow evaporation technique was established, respectively, from the solution of selenium sulfide (SeS2.), and selinium sulfide (SeS2) and tin sulfide (SnS2) mixtures in CS2. The crystals were characterized by XRD, SEM, IR and UV absorption techniques. SeS phase was identified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. Rod-like and rod-like platy morphologies were established for SeS and SeSnS2, respectively, by SEM. IR analysis of SeSnS2 micro crystal revealed disappearance of most of the hyperfine structures in the absorption region of SeS between 450 and 500 cm(-1) suggesting tin doping. UV-absorption measurement showed the shift in cut-off frequency of SeS from 300 to 525 nm confirming once again the entry of SeS into SnS2. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
