The knowledge integrating system REKPERT PLUS containing the subsystems REKPERT (REctification Knowledge based ExPERT System) and HEATPERT (HEAT Integrating ExPERT System) was developed to generate energy integrated distillation sequences. Starting from an initial sequence proposed by the knowledge base of REKPERT or found by other methods, HEATPERT reduces the number of alternatives for the synthesis of energy integrated distillation processes and selects heat matches between condensers and reboilers of distillation columns subject to feasible operating conditions. Beside heat integration each column can be investigated regarding different heat pumps, multi-effect arrangements and complex columns structures under changing physical conditions.
