Simulation of Recovery Methods for Pulping with Peroxyformic and Peroxyacetic Acids
Recovery alternatives for the peroxyacid pulping process were studied using computer simulations. The basic method is pressure shift distillation coupled with a separation process capable to separate acetic acid from formic acid. Possible methods are liquid-liquid extraction, adsorption and membrane processes. Pressure shift distillation can also be replaced by extractive distillation. The material and energy balances for the process alternatives were calculated and the operation costs were estimated. The effect of thermal integration using pinch technology on the economy of the processes was also studied.
