Interfacial reaction between evaporated copper and Dow Cyclotene 3022
Photoacoustic FTIR spectra, taken during the Cu metallization of Dow Cyclotene 3022, indicate amplitude changes in vibrations due to aromatic skeletal motions. XPS core level spectra show no new peaks, although a sharp decrease is seen in the C 1s shakeup contribution; valence band changes are subtle, with no peaks appearing or disappearing. Weak Cu bonding to Cyclotene is indicated, consistent with published Cu adhesion results. Our study strongly suggests this bonding to be between Cu and the aromatic rings of the Cyclotene 3022, and a suggestion is made as to its form.
