Oscillatory chemical reactions are exemplified by the Belousov-Zhabotinskii (BZ) reaction. A new type of structurally ordered chemical oscillator is reported: the BZ reactor-Langmuir monolayer coupled system (see Figure), where the monolayer contains Ru(bpy)3(2+) (bpy is bipyridyl), which luminesces. The preparation and spatio-temporal properties of this system are described.
