Communication: Chain scission is one of the factors which leads to the failure of high-performance materials based on main-chain liquid crystalline polymers. Stable radical species are formed which can be studied using the ENDOR technique, thus throwing some light on the degradation mechanism, dynamics and kinetics in a range of commercial polymers.
