Pseudo-polymer analogous reactions: Methylation of alcohol groups of non-covalently anchored 2,6-dimethyl-beta-cyclodextrin components located in branched side chains of a poly(tandem-rotaxane)
Polymer analogous reactions are polymer modifications performed in analogy to reactions with low molecular weight substrates. In the context of a study of the influence of polymer structure on the reactivity of functional groups, the methylation of residual free OH groups of 2,6-dimethyl-beta-cyclodextrin (giving the moiety shown in the figure) has been investigated. The prefix ''pseudo'' indicates that in this case the groups are partially mobile components that are not covalently attached to the polymer side chains.
