Polarized electroluminescence from rubbing aligned poly(p-phenylenevinylene)
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) that emit polarized light are useful for liquid crystal display applications. Here rubbing alignment of a segmented precursor poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) is used for the preparation of two-layer LEDs that show high dichroic ratios of linearly polarized electroluminescence. The Figure is a scanning electron micrograph of the rubbed PPV layer.
