Mesoporousyttria-zirconia and metal-yttria-zirconia solid solutions for fuel cells
A new class of binary mesoporous yttria-zirconia (YZ) and ternary mesoporous metal-YZ materials (M = electroactive Ni/Pt) is presented here (the Figure shows PtYZ) that displays the highest surface area of any known form of yttria-stabilized zirconia. These mesoporous materials form as solid solutions and retain their structural integrity to 800 degrees C, which bodes well for their possible utilization in fuel cells.
