Oxide monoliths and films with unusual long-range highly ordered lamellar structures
Highly ordered, long-range lamellar structures (see Figure) have been prepared by the sol-gel method using a novel silicone surfactant as a template. The lamellar structures have large lattice constants matching the wavelength of light. The results demonstrate that silicone surfactants with more flexible chains than conventional hydrocarbon surfactants are responsible for the formation of these unusual lamellar oxide mesophases.
