A miniaturized enzyme reactor based on hierarchically shaped porous ceramic microstruts
A microfluidic continuous flow enzyme reactor consisting of porous ceramic microstruts mounted inside polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) channels has been built (see Figure). This is a novel multifunctional approach combining the biocompatibility of ceramics, enzyme immobilization, and high specific surface area of the ceramic microstructures, Also it tackles the mixing problems due to laminar flow often encountered in microfluidic systems.
