Synthesis of polysulfides containing s-triazine rings from 6-substituted amino-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dithiols and 1,10-dibromodecane
s-Triazone-containing polysulfides having high molecular weights were readily synthesized by the phase-transfer catalysed polycondensation of 6-diethylamino or dibutylamino-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dithiols with 1,10-dibromodecane in the presence of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide in a nitrobenzene-aqueous alkaline solution system. The polysulfides are soluble in dichloromethane, chloroform and tetrahydrfuran, and afforded colorless, opaque, ductile and elastomeric films, which exhibit low glass transition temperatures between -20 and -10 degrees C and melting temperatures around 50-70 degrees C.
