Glass fiber and Powder Reinforced piping and vessels are used for storage and transport of various corrosive chemicals in power and desalination plants. Mostly the materials are used in conjunction with hydrochloric acid units and hypochlorination (chlorination) dosing systems. Over the years there have not been many problems; however in case of failures, repair and maintenance have caused much difficulty. Total rehabilitation/replacement are warranted at great cost in some cases. What is the cost effectiveness of such rehabilitation measures and are there any alternative materials available in the market?
