Catalytic oxidative coupling of 2-naphthol using metal beta-diketonates
In presence of molecular oxygen transition metal beta-diketonates induce the ortho ortho coupling of 2-naphthol with good selectivity. The effect of temperature, pressure and the influence of aldehyde as co-catalyst was investigated. Acetylacetonates of Mn(II), Mn(III) and VO(IV) were found to be the most efficient catalysts leading to the formation of prochiral BINOL.
