Rate constant for the reaction CH3CO center dot+HBrand the enthalpy of formation of the CH3CO center dot radical
Pulsed laser photolysis coupled with time-resolved UV-absorption monitoring of CH3COcircle radicals was applied to obtain the rate constant, k(1), for the reaction CH3COcircle + HBr -> CH3C(O)H + Br (1) k(1) (298 K) = (3.59 +/- 0.23 (2 sigma))x 10(-12) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1). Utilization of k(1) in a third law procedure has provided the standard enthalpy of formation value of Delta(f)H degrees(298) (CH3COcircle) = -10.04 +/- 1.10 (2 sigma) kJ mol(-1) in excellent agreement with a very recent IUPAC recommendation.
