Optimization of oil-containing wastewater treatment processes
Due to the predominance of the oil refinery and petrochemical industries, the wastewater from the Apsheron Peninsula, where Baku City is located, contains a considerable amount of oil and oil products, which flow into the Caspian Sea and seriously deteriorate the water environment. There is a wastewater biological treatment station in Baku with a capacity of 640,000 m(3)/d, but its operating condition is not optimal due to the abrupt fluctuations of the treated water. In this case, the optimization and intensification of the treatment process can be reached by means of the sound, efficient and binding control and monitoring of it. Unfortunately, at the present time, there are no automatic analyzers that can efficiently give information about the main pollution components. We have developed an automatic laser analyzer for selective determination of oil and chemicals in the wastewater and an automatic analyzer for simultaneous determination of disserved oxygen, oxygen consumption period, intensity of aeration and temperature. The use of these analyzers helps to get the necessary information, to adjust the procedure and to observe the efficient performance of wastewater treatment.
