Electrode Kinetic-Parameters of the Ferrocene Oxidation at Platinum, Gold and Glassy-Carbon Electrodes in Chloroform
The oxidation process for ferrocene has been studied by cyclic voltammetry rotating disk voltammetry and chronoamperometry in chloroform, at Pt, Au and GC electrodes using Bu4NClO4 (TBAP) as supporting electrolyte. Using rotating disk voltammetry with IR compensation the charge transfer rate constants (k0) and the charge transfer coefficient (alpha) were determined. The diffusion coefficient value for ferrocene, determined by chronoamperometry, is 1.87 x 10(-5) cm-2 s-1 in 0.5 M chloroform solution of TBAP. The obtained data are in accord with the approximate reversibility of ferrocene-ferricinium redox couple and suggest that ferrocene can be used as a voltammetric standard in chloroform.
