Extended Area Electrodes Based on Stacked Expanded Titanium Meshes
Stacked mesh electrodes provide a convenient way to improve the productivity of parallel plate reactors and their performance compares well with other three dimensional electrodes. Such electrodes may be fabricated from coated extended Ti meshes, which allows the design of three dimensional electrodes with the many catalytic coatings now available. This paper describes the characterization of SnO2 coated Ti mesh stack electrodes operating in the flow-by mode and currents of the order of 42 A cm(-3) mol(-1) may be achieved for the oxidation of Fe(CN)(6)(4-) (for a metal foam, the equivalent current is 20 A cm(-3) mol(-1)).
