Anodic oxidation of cyclopentanone and cyclohexanones in a mixed solvent of CF3COOH and CH2Cl2 containing triethylamine led to unusual rearrangement to give selectively gamma-valerolactone and a mixture of gamma- and delta-lactones, respectively.
