An antibody against Clostridium perfringens azoreductase was used with protein A (gold-labeled) to locate the site of synthesis of extracellular azoreductase in this bacterium. Electron microscopy of immunogold-stained thin sections of C. perfringens cells showed an average of 134 gold particles per cell, distributed throughout the cytoplasm and not associated with any organized structures.
