Effect of EDTA on controlling nucleation and morphology in the synthesis of ultrafine Y2O3 : Eu phosphors
Methodology using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) to control phosphor size with a diameter down to 1/30th and a volume of 10(-4) of commercial Y2O3:Eu powders has been developed. These powders still show luminescence and efficiency around 60% of the larger standard materials. Larger particles comprised of 60-120 nm crystallites show 90% of the luminescence of the standard materials. The implications of these findings are discussed.
