Application of tunnel diodes as millimeter cascades oscillator systems
Theoretical and experimental investigations of cascaded oscillator networks using tunnel diodes were carried out. The dependence of the output waveform characteristics on the device- and circuit-parameters and the operating conditions, as well as, the stabilizing network were investigated. A computer aided design technique was achieved to solve the cascaded oscillator general equations and criterion condition for self-starting oscillation. From which, it is clearly noticed that connecting several tunneling diodes in series and parallel networks promise as a method for increasing frequency and output power of these devices as millimeter wave oscillators. On the other hand, a maximum output frequency of 5.10 MHz was obtained applying three cascading stages system. (C) 2002 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
