Ice formation around a jet stream of refrigerant
The phenomenon of ice forming around a jet stream of refrigerant injected from the bottom of a water column has been investigated. Different types of refrigerant, R-12, R-22 and R-134a, have been used. It was found that the stream of R-22 gives better heat transfer, and ice could be formed quicker than with the other refrigerants. A numerical model to predict the water temperature and the thickness of ice forming has also been developed, and the results agree quite well with those of the experiments.
