Nanorods of EuO, a concentrated magnetic semiconductor, are synthesized. SQUID magnetometry shows a large ferromagnetic response for the nanorods of 6.9 mu B per europium atom. Magnetic circular dichroism verifies that the nanowires are indeed ferromagnetic and semiconducting.
