Development of new inorganic membrane modules
The development of new membranes for innovative separations generates a lot of dynamism to the membrane market, bringing innovative solutions to major industrial markets. In particular, crossflow membrane filtration with inorganic membranes is of special interest, as these membranes are specialised for demanding environments. Since their launching of the first multichannel monolithic membrane in the early 80s, SCT has based product development on a combination of two goals: the development and commercialisation of new membrane pore sizes and the design of specialised modules. These two complementary tasks ensure that the module (the final key separation component of membrane + housing), match all the requirements of the application, thus ensuring reliability in long-term performance. In this article, an SCT team composed of Aline Sokol, John Short and Raymond Soria, discuss some of the module's key features in terms of material and design to meet specific process needs, underlining reliability as the key feature of innovative membrane separation developments.
