Effects of a reacting channel wall on turbulent mass transfer
The effects of a turbulent fluid reacting with the channel wall on the turbulent mass transfer were investigated using a Lagrangian method. The reactants diffused from the bulk of the fluid to the channel walls, where they reacted by an effectively first-order reaction. The effective reaction rate was found to be diffusion limited for high Schmidt number fluids. The mass transfer coefficient was found to be independent of reaction rate, but was found to exhibit a strong dependence on the Schmidt number. A correlation of the mass transfer coefficient as a function of the Schmidt number for both low and high Schmidt numbers was obtained. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
