Liquid-liquid equilibria of three ternary systems : 2-propanone-glycerol-methanol, 2-butanone-glycerol-ethanol, and 2-butanone-glycerol-2-propanol in the range of 283.15 to 303.15 K
Liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE) of two binary systems 2-propanone-glycerol and 2-butanone-glycerol were measured in the range of 283.15 to 303.15 K at 5 K intervals. The three ternary systems : 2-propanone-glycerol-methanol, 2-butanone-glycerol-ethanol, and 2-butanone-glycerol-2-propanol were also measured at 283.15, 293.15 and 303.15 K. Since the binary systems, 2-propanone-methanol, 2-butanone-ethanol and 2-butanone-2-propanol, make azeotropes at atmospheric pressure, they cannot be separated to each component by an ordinary distillation. Glycerol, which is partially miscible to 2-propanone and 2-butanone, was found to be one of very interesting solvents in separating the mixtures of 2-propanone-methanol and 2-butanone-2-propanol by liquid extraction. Results were successfully correlated with the UNIQUAC model.
