Effects of Cyclen and Cyclam on Zinc(II)- and Copper(II)-Induced Amyloid beta-Peptide Aggregation and Neurotoxicity
Amyloid beta-peptide (A beta) aggregation is highly associated with Alzheimer's disease, which is facilitated by Zn2+ and Cu2+. Macrocyclic polyamine chelators cyclen and cyclam, can effectively protect A beta against precipitation induced by Cu2+ or Zn2+; the production of H2O2 mediated by Cu-A beta can also be inhibited by these chelators.
