Platinum(II) and Palladium(II) Complexes of Chiral P-Cl Functionalized Bis-phosphino ortho-Carbaboranes
Platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes of chiral P-Cl functionalized bis-phosphino ortho-carbaborane are readily obtained from reactions of chiral bidentate phosphino carbaborane ligands rac-1,2-(PRCl)(2)(C2B10H10) with [MCl2(COD)] (M = Pd, Pt; COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) to give cis-rac-[MCl2{1,2-(PRCl)(2)(C2B10H10)}] (M = Pt, Pd; R = Bu-t, Ph, NEt2, NPh2). cis-rac-[MCl2{1,2-((PBuCl)-Bu-t)(2)(C2B10H10)}] [M = Pt (1), Pd (6)] decompose in solution in toluene or dichloromethane at room temperature over several weeks with formation of the corresponding dinuclear platinum and palladium complex with two nido-carbaboranyl phosphine ligands, (R-p,R-p,S-p,S-p)-[{M(7,8-{(PBuCl)-Bu-t}(2)C2B9H10)(mu-Cl)}(2)] [M = Pt (2), Pd (7)], among other decomposition products.
