MITIGATION OF PYRITE DISSOLUTION DUE TO HUMIC ACIDS ADDITION
The addition of humic acids to three types of pyrite samples, namely: i) naturally occurring pyrite, ii) coal pyrite, and iii) acid refuse sample resulted in a significant decrease in solids dissolution under nitrogen, as well as air. Three possible mechanisms for the observed decrease in pyrite dissolution that involve chelation, adsorption and enhancement of the solution pH due to humic acids addition are presented and discussed.
