PRECISE GRAVITY MEASUREMENTS AT INFERNO CRATER, WAIMANGU, NEW-ZEALAND
Five precise gravity surveys have shown that the only significant gravity changes which occurred during a cycle of lake level fluctuation were at points within about 2 m of the edge of the lake. These data suggest that groundwater in the surrounding rocks is perturbed only within about 5 - 15 m of the lake edge. The mass of fluid which periodically overflows must come from deep (> 200 m) beneath the lake or outside its immediate vicinity.
