Surface fitting in CAGD via finite elements
In CAGD a typical problem is that of digitising errors: data points have been obtained from some digitising device, and a fair surface is sought through them. In many cases, however, the digitised data are inaccurate. There are different ways of solving this problem. We propose to consider the surface as a plate and to minimise its potential energy via finite elements. We use comonotone Bezier splines as ansatz functions. The background for our forgoing is based on the method of finite elements.
