This paper presents the theoretical and experimental work obtained in the project ＇＇Evaluation of the biogas production from the landfill of Bratovo (Burgas, Bulgaria)＇＇. This project has been funded by the European Union in the OUVERTURE program. The preliminary and field work were done by expert people belong to the Spanish company responsible for the project, COGERSA, during two visits to Burgas in July and October of 1995. The main objective of this work was the experimental determination of quantity and quality of biogas generated in the landfill of Bratovo. For this reason, a portable biogas extraction apparatus developed and implemented by COGERSA S.A. was used. The experimental results obtained show that a real possibility exists to recover biogas. As a consequence of this work, the execution of the project ＇＇Extraction network and the energetic uses of biogas in the landfill of Bratovo (Burgas, Bulgaria)＇＇ between COGERSA and the manager of Bratovo landfill will be realised in the future.
